Sgt. Derrick Joseph Lutters 24, a member of Company A, 891st Engineer Battalion, Kansas Army National Guard, was killed in action south of Baghdad, Iraq, on May 1, 2005. Lutters was killed when the vehicle he was riding in was attacked by a suicide bomber with a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device. Lutters was assigned as a Gunner in one of the three vehicles performing a bridge and road reconnaissance mission.
